Repair Process & Diagnostics

Do you charge for diagnostics?

We offer free standard diagnostics for the majority of faults. However, for highly complex systems such as high-value 3-Chip DLP cinema projectors or obscure bespoke electronics, we may apply an advanced diagnostic bench fee. If applicable, this will always be disclosed and agreed upon with you in advance before any work begins.

How long does the repair process take?

Standard repairs are typically completed within 7 to 14 working days from the date the equipment arrives at our laboratory. This timeline is dependent on component availability and the specific complexity of the repair. For mission-critical environments (such as university lecture theatres during term time), we can offer priority SLA turnarounds.

Do you provide quotes before commencing work?

Yes. Initial estimates provided via email or telephone are based on your description of the fault. Once the item is inspected physically at our workshop, we will provide a firm, exact quotation. We will never proceed with paid engineering work without your explicit written approval.

Technical Faults

What does a 7-blink LIGHT error mean on my laser projector?

On Panasonic SOLID SHINE platforms (PT-RZ/PT-RQ), a 7-blink red LIGHT error indicates a catastrophic failure in the light generation stage. This usually involves a failure of the Laser Diode Bank or a loss of Phosphor Wheel synchronisation (often preceded by a high-pitched grinding noise). This requires component-level module repair in our cleanroom.

My projector has a yellow or green tint. Can it be fixed?

Yes. This is a very common fault in 3LCD models (like the PT-MZ or PT-VZ series) caused by UV and thermal degradation of the organic blue polarising filter. We resolve this definitively by dismantling the optical engine and upgrading the burnt component to a heat-resistant inorganic glass polariser, restoring perfect white balance.

Are laser projectors completely maintenance-free?

No, "laser means maintenance-free" is an industry myth. While you do not have to change consumable bulbs, the internal architecture handles extreme thermal loads. Phosphor wheels experience mechanical wear, liquid cooling pumps lose efficiency, and laser diodes drift over time. Preventative maintenance is vital to maintain factory brightness beyond 10,000 hours.

Warranty & Logistics

Do you offer refunds if a repair fails?

We operate a strict 'Recollect and Fix' policy. Because you are paying for highly specialised engineering time and diagnostic labour, we do not issue refunds for completed work. However, if the original fault re-emerges, we will arrange to recollect the unit and perform the necessary remedial engineering to resolve your concern perfectly at no additional cost.

What warranty is provided on repairs?

All component-level repairs carried out by Wells Electronics Ltd are backed by a comprehensive 90-day workmanship guarantee. This covers the specific components replaced and the labour involved. It does not cover unrelated new faults, transport damage (if you arranged your own courier), or user misuse.

How do I ship my heavy large-venue projector to you?

For customers in the UK and Ireland, we arrange fully insured, tracked courier collections directly from your venue or loading bay. For large-venue units (like the PT-RQ50K), it is crucial they are shipped in their original heavy-duty flight cases or manufacturer packaging to prevent convergence drift caused by transport shock.
